How to record your screen on a MAC OS with no apps download required.

Video Recording Tutorial using Quicktime

This is for those people who are thinking of making a tutorial for something like Photoshop, 3D Animation, Web Development, Mobile Development, or those who want to show to their client the app or website that they created and their functionalities for a quick QA, and are working on a MAC would hopefully find this helpful.

No download is needed for this because we will be using Quicktime in recording our video.

We can access this software using the search menu of our mac at the upper right of your screen.

After opening Quicktime, we then go to the upper left side of our screen and click File -> New Screen Recording.

A small window will appear and you just need to press the red button at the center to start capturing your video.

There are two choices in capturing you video.  One is recording your whole screen and the other is recording just a part of your screen by dragging it.

Below is a sample video captured in full screen.

And here is a sample of a video captured with just a selected part of the screen.


After selecting your desired capture option and recording our video, we press the Stop Recording button at the upper right side of the screen.

We will now save it. We go to File -> Export

And then something like the one below will appear. You can see that there are many choices and it is up to you to decide on this.  And don’t forget to name your video.  It’s ok if you don’t as long as you remember its contents.

And then a small window will appear for a few seconds or minutes depending on the length of your video.
